Trace's Place is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, uniquely created and designed to support the growth, development and enrichment of girls and young women in our community. Our target audience is girls 9-17 years old living in the urban core.
Consider this:
Young Women are the fastest growing prison population in the United States.
In 2000, 25% of girls arrested were younger than 13, 32% were 13-15 and 25% are 16-17.
The number of delinquency cases involving young black women increased by 106% between 1988 and 1997, compared with an increase of 83% for all girls
" The key to breaking the cycle is creating places where girls are comfortable and safe, released from the perceived need to fight, carry knives, or hang out with other tough girls".
Heather Johnston-Nicholson, Research Director, Girls Inc
Stability, consistency, high academic expectations
and loving, caring relationships are vital to a child's development.
We know that quality community-based programming is a catalyst in
successfully transitioning girls into independent, responsible and contributing
members of our communities.
Thank you to the Women's Foundation of Greater Kansas City for providing funding to support the My Sisters Keeper Mentoring Program.
