About Us

Life is all about successful transitions. For many children, what should be a simple transition from childhood to adolescence to adulthood is full of extraordinary and often time, debilitating situations outside of their control, that significantly impact their lives and leaves a permanent imprint on their experiences, opportunities and realities for the future.

Since 2001 we have provided monthly mentoring and academic support to girls through My Sisters' Keeper Mentoring and Personal Development Program. My Sisters' Keeper was started in response to concerns about our own daughters, nieces, neigbors and friends. Through this work we learned of the significant challenges facing girls and families and the lack of preventive programming available, especially in the urban core.

To more effectively meet the needs of girls we decided to incorporate under the name Trace's Place and apply for nonprofit status. This enables us to more effectively raise money for expansion to offer a full range of services including mental health and emergency and long-term housing. Additionally, we are eligible to apply for federal, state and local grants, as well as corporate contributions and sponsorships.

Girls in our community are making desperate choices and poor decisions that will have a lifelong and potentially negative impact on their futures. We are changing that by providing relevant education, services and support designed specifically with them in mind!
